Independence Day

Yesterday, September 15, marked 188 years (I think) of independence for El Salvador. To mark this special occasion, towns all over the country held parades and festivities. Actually, the entire month of September is filled with civic and patriotic activities. The participation of the school children is key. Last Sunday was our school's day to participate. Our very cool band, along with another adventist school, specially invited, helped to add an air of excitement to things.

Yesterday morning was the big day. The kids had been practicing their hearts out (band, gymnastics, banner bearers, marchers, all were included). All the kids from my house were participating, so the house mother and I went to watch and take pictures. Although the sun bore down on us with great ferver, and people pressed us from every side, it was worth it to see our kids participating and recieving recognition for their hard work. We all came back exhausted, but thankfully the kids have a day off today to rest a little bit.
