Well, the school year is coming to a close. This week tests, and then, finished! Anyway, in celebration, each class goes on a special field trip, and the younger ones require a parent or someone responsible to accompany them. I've had the honor on 3 occasions lately. One trip with 5th and 6th graders to the zoo and botanical gardens, one trip to El Mundo Feliz (where they have lots of games to play) and the mall, and one trip with the other 5th and 6th graders to Termos del Rio (a waterpark). These kids don't get out very much, so when they do, it's quite the treat. It's amazing to me that 17-year olds have never ridden an elevator before ("do you know how to work it?", they asked me), or are afraid of the escalator. Teaching them how to function in the world outside these gates is every bit as important as teaching them math and science, in my opinion. And I'm thankful for the opportunity to just hang out with them, it's amazing what that can do for a kid.
I had an interesting thought while we were at the waterpark. We were standing in the wavepool, watching the mass of people be tossed back and forth by the waves. Some were having a bit of trouble, they hadn't yet learned how to adapt to the waves. Others were calmly allowing the waves to rock them back and forth, take them wherever they pleased. But very few were fighting the waves. It made me think, how many of us just let the waves of life toss us where they will, sit back and take what comes? We must learn balance, how to ride the waves, but still maintain our firm ground.
(will post some pics soon!)

Hmm..good point. There's no point fighting the waves, and it can be dangerous to let the waves take us down...but using the waves to push us where we need to go...or something like that. I really like that analogy! :)
Missing you at SM Emphasis Week and Expo this Sabbath!!
